LNG in port of Klaipeda

LNG in port of Klaipeda 19.10.2018 Klaipėda liquefied natural gas floating storage and regasification unit terminal or Klaipėda LNG FSRU  is a LNG terminal in the port of Klaipėda, Lithuania. It costs US$128 million. The project operator is Klaipedos Nafta.

The terminal started operating on 3 December 2014. After the completion of the Klaipėda LNG FSRU, Lithuania will become the fifth country in the world to use FSRU technology for liquefied natural gas.

LNG carrier built by Hyundai Heavy Industries. It has a maximum capacity to handle of almost 4 billion cubic meters per annum of natural gas (2.2 million tonnes of LNG), while it has four storage tanks with total capacity of 170,000 cubic meters . However, until the end of 2015, the maximum capacity is to 2 billion cubic meters per annum  due to limited pipeline capacity between Lithuania and underground storage in Latvia, and due to a closed gas market in Latvia.

Sales revenue for the first nine months in 2018 reached €75.7 million, 4.8 million below the €79.5 million during the corresponding period last year.

The FSRU Independence currently provides Lithuania with roughly half of its gas needs with the rest being sourced from Russian Gazprom.
